Programmes Aims and Objectives
Introduction

During this course, students study basic principles of accounting procedures and concepts. They gain important skills regarding the daily procedures of an accounting department and its management, as well as the ability and confidence to function successfully in key positions within organizations.

Rationale
The course provides all the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful career in the fields of Accounting and Finance, and has been approved by the ACCA for 9 exemptions from the ACCA professional qualification title of Chartered Certified Accountant. Graduates can also find employment and advance up to executive levels in international organizations.

Aims of the Programme
1. To provide expertise in Accounting and associated fields.
2. To provide students with the theoretical, technical and empirical background necessary for financial problem solving and financial decision making, within the complex and changing global business environment.
3. To offer a broad-based education, which will provide a good starting point for students’ future professional careers and further studies.

Objectives of the Programme
1. To develop good skills in financial accounting and financial reporting.
2. To master the auditing and taxation skills, as well as cost and management accounting.
3. To be able to make financial statement analysis, which, together with information technology skills, will give the confidence to use a wide range of accounting and business software.

Admission Requirements

The general admission requirements for entry to Bachelor's degree programmes are as outlined below.  Students are advised to contact the Office of Admissions to find out more about the range of equivalent international academic qualifications accepted.

  • Regular admission to a Bachelor's degree programme requires a full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 GCE O-levels at credit or higher, including English and Mathematics or international equivalent qualifications.
  • Applicants with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma may be considered for entry.
  • Applicants with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant subject area may be considered for entry to year 3 of a relevant Bachelor's degree, depending on the content of the curriculum previously taken.
  • English proficiency: Grade 6 (Credit) or better on the General Certificate of Education or international equivalent qualification or demonstrated by approved English Language Tests.
  • Copy of a valid passport or national ID

 

ICB to ACCA Exemptions

Graduates of the ICB Financial Accounting NQF Level 6 Diploma are eligible for up to six exemptions (papers F1 – F6) in the ACCA qualification.

  • Eligible Qualification: The National Diploma: Financial Accounting NQF Level 6.
  • Number of Exemptions: Up to six papers in the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills levels.
  • Application Process: This is not always automated. You must send an application form, a copy of your ID, and certified transcripts of your ICB results to us.
  • Important Note: The exemptions must be based on completed, passed exams. Exemptions are not awarded for subjects you may have failed in the past.
